Sauvignon Gris is a bit of an enigma: it’s very closely related to Sauvignon Blanc, but maintains its own identity in the right hands. That said, it’s no surprise that the two are quite complementary when blended; rather it’s more of a surprise that it’s so rare. Outside of Bordeaux, there are very few plantings and precious few in California. That could be due to its lower yield (relative to its parent) or its more subtle flavor and aromatic profile. But neither of those characteristics are considered detrimental by us. Instead, it’s the opportunity to create something new and different, something surprising but not altogether unfamiliar, that is the interesting intellectual and creative challenge.
