Time To Party at the Ol’ Chateau

Once a year, we close the winery to throw the party of all parties for our dedicated CellarMaster members. Always the third Saturday of May, so it will be on the 21st of this year, is our annual Movable Feast.  As those lucky to attend last year will remember, the Modern/Cajun version of the Partridge Family, L’angelus, will be performing one more time. These young brothers and sisters act (yes, I had to card them last year) put on an amazing show; the attendees got up and danced, a Conga line formed, and some members showcased their true vocal talents (and yes, they were good); final round American Idol good; not midnight Karaoke at the local bar bad.

Food will be themed around the Cajun party; whole roasted pig, gumbo, crayfish, and much, much more.  Oh yeah, plenty of Montelena wines,  young and old, will be pouring a plenty as we celebrate our 35th anniversary of the famous Paris tasting of 1976. In our audience will be George Taber, author of Judgement in Paris, and sole journalist to witness and write about the famed tasting.

If you’re an eligible CellarMaster member, reserve now as it is limited, and will sell out.  For those who didn’t, well, sign up  to become a CellarMaster now and get ready for next year. After all, I’m tasked with making this party better and better each year!

And….if you didn’t get in this year, we’re throwing an open to the public event on June 25th.  Check it out at

If you read George’s recent post on the subject of vintage, you might be interested to see the entire vintage of 2007 – the current release of Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon – through the “eyes” (as it were) of one particular vine.  Life of a Vine presents a monthly summary, in three installments, of what actually transpired that year.  Take a look.

Wooden You Know?

Here’s a wood rendition of our Chateau.  It’s one of those collector’s items.  Very creative little sculpture, if you ask us, fun to look at.  It also got us thinking about our Re-Imagine the Chateau Contest and the inspired entries we have received so far (no sculptures, hint, hint).  Why enter?  Because you could win two free passes to our Franc&Blanc  event here at the Chateau on June 25.  We’re going to have fun – just for the fun of it.  Of course you can buy tickets now, but if you are feeling extra creative enter the contest and if you win, bring two extra friends.  Either way, we hope to see you here on June 25.

Win Two VIP Tickets to Franc&Blanc on June 25, 2011

Chateau Montelena Logo

Introducing our First AnnualRe-Imagine Our Chateau” Design Contest.  Submit the winning design and earn two VIP tickets to Franc&Blanc, the just-for-the-fun-of-it event at the Chateau on June 25, 2011.  The image above of the iconic stone castle, emblazoned on all of our wine labels, has been the most-widely recognized depiction of the winery for generations.  How would you re-imagine it for a new generation?  Be as creative as you like.  Whether you render a whole new drawing, get fancy in Photoshop, build a sculpture, paint a picture, or invent something totally wild and unpredictable – we want to see it.  Post an image of your creation(s) on our Facebook Page, anytime between now and May 11th. The winning design* will be announced on Friday, May 13th.

*The winning design remains yours.  We only ask for the right to use it in our promotions.

Please Note:  We welcome entries from all geographic locations, but please keep in mind that the prize includes two (2) VIP tickets for admission to the Franc&Blanc party only.  Travel, lodging and other costs are not included.

Sneak Peak: Franc&Blanc

We’re really looking forward to our upcoming #Franc&Blanc party, here at the winery, on June 25th.  What’s not to love about delicious wine, fantastic food, great music and plenty of entertaining games?!  We can barely contain our excitement.  We’re encouraging guests to wear red (franc) or white (blanc) to declare their wine preference, but we’re also encouraging guests to dress up with fun props, let loose and have fun in our photobooth.  The event is still a few months away, but Nyk is already getting ready for his close-up:

What’s your favorite part of a party?  The food?  The drinks?  The games?  Tell us what makes an awesome party.

Are You Franc or Blanc?

Have you ever wanted to taste the wines that we make just for the fun of it?  Now you can.  The winery will host a first-of-its-kind party called Franc&Blanc on Saturday, June 25, 2011 from 3:00 to 7:00 pm where we’ll be pouring two of our limited-production wines – Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc – along with other wines such as our Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Napa Valley Chardonnay.  There may even be a few other surprise wines here and there.

We’ll have a DJ, food trucks providing plenty of bites that pair with the wines, barrel tasting, a photobooth, vineyard tours, wine classes, games and prizes and much, much more!  The Montelena Family will be there too (because we love a great party) and we’re closing the winery down just for this special event.

Tickets are on sale now for general admission and VIP (*note that VIP tickets include transportation to/from the winery and access to a private VIP lounge).  Come and join us and declare your preference by wearing red (franc) or white (blanc).
